Mankind has started the long journey of life from time immemorial. Every age has been described as modern age. Mankind has scaled great heights in material prosperity. The emerging all round material comforts is now threatening the life proper. The macro family system is almost extinct, and the micro family system has emerged.
Human relationship is in doldrums. Better inter human relationships are a powerful wealth in human life. Its absence has aggravated stress and strain of all sorts. This aspect, in particular has triggered emotional turmoil. When an individual is always focused on outside situations, he seldom tries to understand himself, his own feelings in life.
Thus a high rise unseen wall of misunderstanding, suspicion, indifference, un fulfilment and dissatisfaction separates two individuals from coming together and coexisting together in amity and comradeship. Problems of ill health, unemployment, job dissatisfaction, loss in business, natural calamities and other related problems are the other factors which threaten human life.
Eat out culture, pizza culture, coca-cola culture, fast food culture, ultimately, eat –drink-dance and be merry culture has again created physically and mentally ill people. We have many self contradicting life style practices.
A cigarette is manufactured with a warning on the packet that ‘cigarette-smoking is injurious to health’, while cigarette manufacturing companies sponsor international sports events to promote consumers’ interest in their products; a doctor with a cigarette in his hand advising a patient not to smoke, a father asking his son not to smoke while he gets a cigarette pack through his son, a government officer speaking in favour of prohibition while license is issued for more and more liquor joints.
While we boast of establishing more and more hospitals, police stations and judicial courts in the name of progress, the hard fact is that we have a sick society, a society of people with criminal and litigation – prone mindset. Globalisation and liberalization have thrown open a plethora of new avenues for borrowing money, and free flow of goods and services. The multinational companies are like monsters swallowing the indigenous comparatively small units with its cost effectiveness and finer products. In the background, many promising entrepreneurs are disappearing from the scene alongwith their workforce, and automatically the number of unemployed people goes up, not to speak of social upheavals.
The borrowing spirit of the governments is stepped up. Borrowing and adjusting or diverting funds for a particular purpose to some other areas and the successive government again going in for another borrowing spree is on the move to create a bankrupt State and bankrupt people in it. There is disintegration of traditional support system and poor frustration in tolerance the world over.
The emergence of coalition based governments with individuals and parties nurturing and promoting opposing views and ideas, basically prone to working at cross purposes is an indication of the fact that the people of the world have divergent fundamental ideas who cannot coexist. Each person has become an island.
No amount of human efforts will suffice to control, regulate better governance in many of the countries of the world, because there are basically divergent opposing views. Welfare oriented policies and programmes cannot be boldly pushed through with determination because the coalition partners have their own partisan ideas, aspirations and self centred ideas which are anchored on the fear that the other partners may gain more popularity and acceptance from the masses, and thereby holding back the bold steps.
A peculiar labyrinthine situation has come to stay where human beings are helpless, hopeless and pessimistic. Somehow the governments, the institutions, establishments and down the line, the individual life is moving on.
Now it is for us to go into the spiritual domain of existence which is the basic, the fundamental domain of existence and explore that spiritual existence to cope with the material prosperity and associated comforts and facilities, to strike a balance between material and spiritual level existence. Einstein, the great scientist had observed ‘science can denature plutonium, but science cannot remove the evils in the hearts of man’.
This observation reminds us that the evils and ill will in man needs to be removed with a spiritual hand and not with a physical hand. Life is the inter action of matter and energy. We have been very actively using the physical and material tools for human development and progress. Physical and spiritual level existence is a fact of life. Man is a spiritual entity.
He is a spirit manifesting in terms of feelings, emotions and embodiment of virtues. Unfortunately spirituality, has been mistaken for religious preaching and practices, religious rituals and rites, religious fundamental ideas and associated violence and piety fringed worldliness. The goodness in the spirit – the individual – which is the natural nature of the spirit, consists of compassion, kindness, mercy, politeness, courtesy, civility, love, cooperation, humility, patience, tolerance and peace should manifest in human life.
Better life condition is the active presence of the goodness in man. The life is sustained and enjoyed with it. The mind is the reservoir of goodness in man. Spirituality is the manifestation of zeal, enthusiasm, creativity, enterprising nature, venturesome attitude for common good and welfare. Spirituality binds humankind as a family on earth. The world over, people have the knowledge of the power of the mind. We have used the mind to create physical wealth and prosperity.
But it is time that we direct the mind to create spiritual wealth and prosperity and fill the surroundings and atmosphere with goodness. Unless the individuals are influenced to think right based on their original nature of goodness for common good and move on as a group, human life will become a struggle and full of misery.
Spirituality on one hand is the awareness and application of one’s own natural nature of goodness and on the other is the spiritual technology of linking one’s mind to the Supreme spirit - the ultimate source of creative intelligence-God. He is the embodiment of absolute goodness and power. God is not a phenomenon but a reality. God is the supreme spiritual energy source. In fact, the spiritual energy is the shaker and mover of the situations accruing in the physical world.
Dr.Deepak Chopra in his spiritual laws for success writes that ‘The universe opeates through dynamic exchange, giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe. And in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives’. The real wealth is the wealth of happiness, contentment, peace, love and bliss in life. The spiritual law is that- ‘the easiest way to get what you want is to help others to get what they want’.
It is again simple. If you want joy, give joy to others, if you want love, learn to give love, if you want attention and appreciation, learn to give attention and appreciation and so on. God, the Supreme spirit is the perennial source of all these. Mentally linking to the ultimate source of creative intelligence in loveful countenance energises the innate virtues in the individual spirits.
Then individuals
are able to keep balance between material prosperity with humaneness in
life. Meditation; meditate and meditate
on the supreme Consciousness – God, to gain spiritual power to handle the world
situations successfully, to create the real wealth of happiness, peace and
bliss in human life, is the need of the hour.
