In
the development of human personality, we are particularly concerned with the
habits and traits of the individual.
We
human beings throughout our life development acquire hundreds, and perhaps
thousands, of different habits of thinking, feeling and acting. Some of these
are acquired consciously, others unconsciously. Their sum total, however, gives
us the particular personality that makes us distinctively ourselves, and that
determines our relationship to other people.
Good
personality is made up of habits that make people respond to us favourably.
Poor personality means the presence of some traits that bring about unfavourable
response.
Our
job, then, is to develop a pattern of only desirable personality traits, in
appearance, talk and action.
The
first impression people get from our appearance is often a deep and lasting
one. Appearance does not make the man, true, but it is also true that others
cannot see through us. They must get their first impression by what they see.
Good
appearance in clothing and grooming is therefore very important for a good
personality.
Our
voice makes a tremendous impression on the reactions of others, good or bad,
and therefore we ought to try to cultivate good habits of talk.
The
habits of the action embrace all our other deeds, thoughts, attitudes, and
moods. They are a valid basis for the analysis of a man's personality and
character. They are the heart of the real personality.
Appearance
and voice and our other good qualities such as Positivity, Friendliness,
Cheerfulness, Sincerity, Dependability, Unselfishness, Optimism, Helpfulness,
Spiritulity, Values, Enthusiasm and Honesty, assure permanently good reactions.
On positivity
If
my mind is still enough, I can see the deeper meaning behind each situation. No
matter how bad a problem may seem on the surface, if I remain positive
eventually I will see how everything has worked out for the best. The most
important part of you is your mind. Care for your mind, make friends with it,
always feed it healthy food, engage it in positive activity, exercise it with
knowledge and wisdom. Like a garden, it will repay you with thoughts, ideas and
visions of great beauty.
Because of self-doubts and lack of encouragement from "the outside" we underachieve or overachieve. An alternative to having such limiting self-beliefs is to see ourselves as having almost limitless potential. It is not that we don't really have limits, but that we do not allow ourselves to retain ideas that limit us.
Instead, we can develop a positive view of ourselves that says we believe in our own strengths especially our abilities to learn and to motivate ourselves to do what will make us happy. This general self-view can help us go into almost any situation with a positive attitude of willingness to learn and do whatever it takes to achieve happiness, thus maximising our chances of succeeding at even very difficult tasks.
If we had
faith in ourselves, in our talents our own powers, in our own skills, we could
do impossible things. We are not given a dream without the potential to make it
come true.
On doing our best
Nothing
average ever stood as a monument to progress. When progress is looking for a
partner it doesn't turn to those who believe they are only average. It turns
instead to those who are forever searching and striving to become the best they
possibly can. If we seek the average level we cannot hope to achieve a high level
of success. Our only hope is to avoid being a failure.
Create vision
Never believe anyone who says we cannot change. Vision is one of the secrets of personal transformation. We are all artists, our mind is the arena of creation and vision is what we are constantly creating.
What is your vision of yourself
today - patient, relaxed, positive or tense, tight and negative? What do you
prefer? So be creative - what does patience look like, feel like, what are you
doing that is different when you are patient and you are expressing your power
to….. wait? Always start with vision not action. See it and you will be it. Be
it and you will do it. This is how we create our own life.
Aim
When water flows in one direction, it generates energy. The wind, when it blows in one direction, also generates energy. Sun rays, when focused, generate energy. In the same way, when we have an aim and objective, our actions become directed, focused.
A current of consistent actions flowing in the direction of
one's aim becomes increasingly powerful at each second. The intellectual
capital invested in that will generate the dividends of increased happiness.
